The Koski Kup - Raising Money To Combat Lupus Since 2007

2008 Recap - October 4, 2008

The 2nd annual Koski Kup, held on October 4th, 2008, successfully accomplished its dual mission, raising $4,582 for Lupus Ontario (www.lupusontario.org) and by bringing together 8 determined & driven teams from across the Toronto GTA, Peterborough and Montreal. Twice the size of the 2007 inaugural, the tournament featured the following 4 teams in Division 1: The Usual Suspects, Les Tabernouches, The Afghanistan Banana Stands & Team Leafers; and the following 4 in Division 2: BSB Dynamo, TheHitmen, The A Team & The Koski Clan.

What was on the line? In short, pride, glory, and that elusive honour, an engraving on the Kup (not just another extremely high-end asparagus cooker). After a hard fought final, Les Tabernouches successfully defended their title against BSB Dynamo. Once again, the Koski family team was left to question their 11 month rigorous training regimen and dietary restrictions.

We would like to thank all of the many invidividuals and organizations that made this year's tournament such a success. Firstly, thank you all participants for your donations, support and energy. Thank you: Chris Koski and Eva Janssens (goal sponsors who donated $2,725 for 109 well-placed shots), Scott MacIntosh (organizing committee & tireless volunteer), Carly Mutch (prime photographer), Desmond Fan (Professional Massage on-site), Craig Lawrence (t-shirt design), Rob Samulewitsch and Sourcing Central (www.sourcingcentral.ca) (t-shirt donation), The Auld Spot (www.auldspot.ca) (gift certificates to restaurant), Marc LeBlanc and Stephanie D'Amico (Wine, Hockey News Subscription, Bath Robe donors), Antoine Boivin-Filion (hockey equipment), John Druce (autographed Desjardins stick donor), Joanna Miller, Mark Hewitt, J.P. Gravina & Natali Tofiloski (net sponsors), Lisa Koski (award plaques), Marian Walsh & Barbara Lochhead (event vehicle sponsor & on-site chefs), Dynamo Living Media (event equipment)(www.dynamolivingmedia.com), Bensimon-Byrne (Messenger Bag, Hat & Towel)(www.bensimonbyrne.com)

1st Annual Koski Kup was held October 27th, 2007

The 1st annual Koski Kup was held on October 27th in downtown Toronto amidst wet and soggy conditions. Despite inclement weather, the tournament had a great turnout (w/ over 50 registered players) and 4 teams battled hard for the right to have their name engraved on the Kup. "Les Tabernouches" were the ultimate winners of a hard fought final! The tournament was organized to raise money for Lupus Canada and we are happy to report that we raised over $2,500. A formal presentation was made to Lupus Canada in mid-November, including a check for $1500.

We would like to thank all of the many invidividuals and organizations that made our first tournament such a success. Firstly, thank you all participants for your donations and your positive attitude - despite an insane amount of water on the rink. Thank you Chris Koski and Eva Janssens who generously committed to donate $25 per goal scored and ended up giving over $1,000. Further, thank you to the following individuals and organizations that made the tournament possible: Scott Macintosh (founding tournament commissioner), Heath Priston (prime photographer + music coordinator), Sacha Karman + Marie-Eve Duffy (on-site raffle organizers), Antoine Boivin-Filion (hockey equipment), Jimmy Ioanids (on-site support + video iPod donor), Mark Leblanc (on-site support + autographed Sundin jersey donor), Joanna Miller (setup + on-site support), Marian Walsh (on-site bbq chef + broom sourcer), Barbara Lochhead (on-site support + broom sourcer), Craig Galbraith (website donation & configuration) & Dynamo Living Media (extraordinary event equipment) & Scadding Court Community Centre (tournament facility).
